Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn outperformed and Square Enix revised their earning forecast. Their original estimate for net sales was between 59 billion yen ($598 million) and 63 billion yen ($639 million). This number was adjusted to 61.7 billion yen ($626 million).

Square Enix original estimated up to a 2 billion yen ($20 million) operating loss, but thanks to Final Fantasy XIV and strong arcade sales Square Enix expects 4.7 billion yen ($48 million) of operating profit. That’s a significant turn around. Net income was adjusted from between 0 to a 1.3 billion yen ($13 million) loss to 2.6 billion yen profit ($26 million). All numbers are for the six month period ending on September 30, 2013.

The PS4 Version of FFXIV Will Run at 60 FPS, 1080p, Equivalent to Highest PC Settings

http://www.dualshockers.com/2013/09/21/t...-settings/

Not really... I run @ 2560 X 1440, but it is still nice that the PS4 will get a significant boost over it's older brother.

Quote:On February the 22nd 2014 Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will enter its beta testing phase on PS4 (and those that already bought the PS3 version will get the PS4 version for free), but how will it run and how good will it really look? According to Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida, it’ll run really well and look great, as he shared today in an interview on Game Watch.

Yoshida-san explained that the PS4 version of the game will have a visual fidelity equivalent to the current highest PC setting, and that it’ll run in 1080p resolution at 60 fps, unlike the PS3 version that is limited to 720p and 30 fps. It will also display the same number of characters on screen as the PC version.

It’s worth mentioning that he didn’t mention if the PS4 version will run at 60 FPS stably or will just get there when there isn’t much crowd. A stable 60 FPS framerate would be a quite amazing feat, considering that at the moment you need a rather beefy PC to keep the framerate locked there in the most crowded situations.

That said, he clarified that a DirectX 11 version of the PC client is currently in development, and while the PS4 version will use some of the new DirectX 11 features, it won’t use them all.

In addition to that, he also stated that, since there’s memory to spare, the option to use keyboard and mouse with the PS4 version will be implemented. You can already use them in the PS3 version, but the keyboard and mouse UI isn’t implemented due to memory limitations, making them almost useless. The touch pad of the DualShock 4 has also been already tested to be used for targeting.

Talking about the PS4 beta test Yoshida-san said that it’ll happen on separate servers from the live servers currently used for PS3 and PC, as the team cannot afford to disturb the current players if critical bugs were to occur. The test will happen in stages and players will initially begin with new characters, and then they’ll be given access to their old PS3 characters.

The estimated duration for the PS4 beta test is about a month. If everything goes well, data from the third week onward will carry over to the live servers.

Patch 2.1

Good King Moogle Mog will returning as a boss fight. More than likely he will be accessible through the duty finder. Please look forward to it.

A new difficulty for Ifrit, Garuda, and Titan fights will be added in this patch as well. They haven’t quite decided if they’ll call them hard, super, ultra, extreme, or any other awesome intense name. I can see it now. “Ifrit, for real this time”.

Two hard level dungeons and the Crystal Tower, a 24-man raid dungeon, will be added.

Also new Hildibrand quests and FATEs are being added. If you didn’t know, Hildibrand was a comic relief NPC from version 1.0. He has his own… unique sense of humor.

The Wolves Den, a 4v4 and 8v8 arena will be opening in this patch. You can travel to it by boat from Lower La Noscea, and to enter the arena you must use the Duty Finder.

And lastly, Mists, the La Noscea player housing region will be unlocked in 2.1. Houses are available to Free Companies and individual players for a monetary value.

Patch 2.2

New Primal fights will be introduced. Yoshida stated that they will be “ones that new players haven’t even imagined.”

Either Leviathan, Shiva or Ramuh will be in 2.2. It has yet to be revealed which one, but they all seem like fun fights and fun stories to flesh out!

Gilgamesh might make an appearance as a boss fight in either 2.2 or 2.3.

It is possible that Free Companies will have the ability to summon their own Primal (FATE?) battles in this patch. No concrete details have been announced though. If not 2.2 then possibly 2.3.
And Beyond!

Patch 2.3

This the target release for the Golden Saucer! The reason they haven’t revealed much about it is because they are currently busy working on it. They are hoping to have at least 3 mini games available before they release it into the game. Yoshida says perhaps a card game, a mini game, or a snowboarding game. I’d love to snowboard down Coerthas with my Lalafell!

It has also been confirmed that the first draft of the first expansion has been submitted! Obviously there is a lot of work to be done, but at least they are planning for the future!
